Great Lake Hotel Development
The Great Lake Hotel has been part of Tasmania’s Central Highlands for over a 100 years. It is known for its log fires and a great place to have a meal and a drink as you pass through or after a day fishing for the elusive trout.
The Johns Group Tasmania has purchased the hotel and the surrounding land including the General Store and took possession at the end of September 2019.
Over the next 5 years the property will be redeveloped into what will be known as Miena Village and incorporate a new hotel (it will still be called the Great Lake Hotel) with multi-level food and beverage outlets; a new general store and fuel outlet for use by local residents, those who are staying and those who pass through; 14 x 2 bedroom self-contained huts; 6 x 8 double room lodges with shared bathroom and kitchen; an amenities block; a powered recreational vehicle and caravan area; a camping area including a camp kitchen and stables for horses. Along with the new buildings the necessary road works, sewerage and other infrastructure will be developed.
This exciting development will open up Tasmania’s Central Highlands to the growing tourism market and provide significant local business and employment opportunities.
The development will be undertaken in stages with the first stage to be completed by November 2019 and include the refurbished hotel and store, significant upgrades to sewerage and the demolition of miscellaneous outbuildings and a general clean-up of the site.
The refurbishment of the hotel will include a new kitchen and upgrades to the interior while the refurbishment to the general store will include greater take-away food options and grocery products.
The hotel will open from 10 am to 9 pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday and from 10 am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
